G’day everyone, Mark Pesce here, author of Getting Started with ChatGPT and AI Chatbots: An introduction to generative AI tools. A big WELCOME AND THANK YOU to the more than 500 of you (!) who have signed up for this monthly newsletter!
A lot has happened in the last few weeks, and I’d like to bring you up-to-date with the latest news...
An announcement - and some excitement
On the 19th of September, BCS Publishing announced that Getting Started with ChatGPT and AI Chatbots would hit bookshelves on 17 January 2024.
On Thursday the 28th of September I submitted the final edits to my draft manuscript - including some important last-minute changes, because new features have been added to Bing Chat/Windows Copilot, ChatGPT and Google Bard!
We’re trying very hard to get the book out even sooner. In next month’s newsletter I hope to have some good news on that front. Why move so fast? AI chatbots are rolling out even faster than anyone had expected...
Microsoft brought forward the release of Windows Copilot, its deep integration of Bing Chat into its Windows 11 operating system. Windows Copilot is now going out to nearly half a billion PCs, a rollout that will be complete by late November.
Meta announced AI chatbot integration across all their messenger products - Facebook Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp. That means three billion people will be using AI chatbots within the next few months - almost 10 times the reach of Microsoft Windows Copilot!
And Amazon - not to be left out in the cold - announced that Alexa will be getting a brain transplant, with a custom AI chatbot built into it.
All of this furious activity means it’s more important than ever for everyone to understand how to use AI chatbots safely and wisely. That’s why I wrote Getting Started with ChatGPT and AI Chatbots!
Two newsletters to keep you well-informed about AI chatbots
The WindowsCopilot.news website brings you the most important stories about AI chatbots, the news you need to keep yourself and your organisations safe and secure during this transformation.
If you don’t have time for that, check out our weekly newsletter, featuring the top news stories, tips, techniques and lessons learned about how to work safely and wisely with AI chatbots. Here’s an excerpt from the latest issue:
Microsoft sent out its latest 22H2 Windows 11 update, putting its Windows Copilot into general release, with deep integrations across the entire operating system used by hundreds of millions. Read more here.
Meta will be putting AI chatbots into all of its messenger products: Facebook Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp. That will bring AI chatbots to nearly 3 billion users. All about that here.
Amazon will be supercharging Alexa with an AI chatbot. Read more here.
If you have ChatGPT+, you can now talk to it - and hear it talk back - via the mobile app. You can also share images with it, which led to one enterprising designer uploading a wireframe, and asking ChatGPT+ to generate code to make it all work. (Which it promptly did.) Read about that here.
There’s also a long-form newsletter - Windows Copilot Strategies - where I look at the strategic implications of the massive, sudden and ubiquitous rollout of AI chatbots. No technology has gone to scale so quickly - while so poorly understood. If you’re a decision-maker, you should be reading Windows Copilot Strategies.
Finally, thank you for subscribing to this newsletter. Please share it with anyone who could benefit from learning how to work in this new world - where AI chatbots are everywhere - safely and wisely.
Until next month,
